As previously reported, I want to trade my Rebel for something different. It’s a fun bike and I love it, though I’m feeling I love the look of the bike more than the bike itself. I really want a Grom and/or a more powerful cruiser, sportbike, maybe even something else if it looks interesting enough.

So far I haven’t gotten any lowball offers. I specifically noted that I’m looking for trades or no less than $900.

First trade offer was an 80s TW200 with an ATV rear tyre. Cool, though not my kind of thing right now. Second offer was a Gorilla Motor Works 50cc scooter. Third offer was a four wheeler.

Not sure if I actually will follow through on trading it right now (I kinda want to wait to see if Decay lets go of his VTX), but I’m wanting to see how much people think it’s worth! :)

Those old fat tire bikes are awesome, and the right ones are actually worth quite a bit. I’d look into that one a little more before you pass up on the trade, it might not be what you’re into right now , but it might be a good opportunity to trade even higher up/sell for more money.

I got a grand for trade in on my V-Star 250 when I bought the FZ-09. I knew you’d outgrow that Rebel pretty fast. the down side to a bigger cruiser is that pretty much everything above the old 250s is a lot  bigger and heavier.  even the 650/750 metric V-twins are getting into Harley heavy territory.

As much As I’d love to help with bad decisions, t he VTX might be a bit... much.

I’m still getting used to it, but it is literally DOUBLE the weight of anything else I own, and a full 250lbs more than the heaviest bike I ever owned. Once moving, it’s not really noticeable , but going slowly it absolutely is.

And it’s also huge, about the same wheelbase as my miata lol

I still wanna accept that challenge lol. OMG that thing is fudging beautiful.

Just you know........ I should never ever do a u-turn on it or drop it on myself because I would end up having to do some “127 Hours” stuff. lol

The took kit is probably large enough to fit a small pocket knife for that possibility ;)

It certainly would be an experience for you lol.
- 2.5 times the weight of the Rebel
- 7 times the power
- 10 times the torque

Those numbers are slightly smaller if you use the Blast for comparison! lol

I pretty much figured out my “dream” bike garage config for now:

Buell Blast
Some bike with more displacement than the Blast
150cc Chuckus (winter and offroader bike)
Chonda Grom

Best offer I have for the Rebel right now is a 50cc Chuckus. It looks like an engine swap with my 150cc Chuckus isn’t as easy as I thought it would be...However it looks like these things are worth about as much as a Rebel in better condition than mine is in.

Not THAT much smaller! Wait, I’m confused now, don’t you already have a 150cc Ch uck? Why would you get another in 50 and swap in the 150 motor?

Also ... chucking out that “rule of three” already I see....

I would swap the 150 motor into the 50 because holy cow, I adore the look of that 50. However it looks like I would be better off painting the 150 and enjoying the bigger body the 150 has.

At this point I’d only accept the 50 as a trade just to turn it around and sell it again. I think I’d have better luck getting a grand out of it than I would with the Rebel? Maybe I’m wrong.

I’m willing to break my “rule of three” of the fourth is a Chinese bike. lol

Maybe your market is a bit differ ent than mine, I tend to see China rucks at that price sit on the market for quite a while.

It actually really entertains me that most of the modified ruckuses end up basically looking like that, and use mostly components sourced from china ... yet they still feel superior because a couple of the remaining stock components say “honda”. Funny that people would swap a GY6 into a ruckus when you can get a scooter that looks pretty much the same, with that  motor as stock, for less that the cost of a swap.

Or maybe I’m wrong lol. I have a real hankering to fill the “Grom Clone” slot right now as bike prices appear to be falling as the season gets closer to ending out here.

I also have to remember that I’m trying to trade for something larger/more expensive. And if you’re right a 50cc Chuckus wouldn’t be a good trade. lol

One of my MSF instructors mentioned that she never spends more than $1,500 on bikes and because she buys bikes that cheap, she basically doesn’t lose much money (if any) when she gets bored and wants another. That sounds massively appealing to me. Unfortunately, this means I’ll be locked out of the real Grom market for a while as any Grom under $2k gets gobbled up before I can finish gasping.

Good point about the whole Ruckus thing. It’s amusing to think that a modded Ruck looks exactly like a Ruck clone (does this make the clones more original than the originals? lol) and a 150cc GY6 swap is popular . I mean, may as well just have bought the clone if you were going to go through the work of a heart transplant.

My rule for not losing money on bikes is that If I’m not racing at least 3 other people to buy it, it’s not for me. You almost never lose money that way, but you need to have cash ready to go on a moment’s notice (and usually on sunday lol)

I only went against that rule twice , and that was for stuff I wanted long term (the triumph and the stella). Everything else was impulse buy extreme low end of market where I messaged the seller “I can head your way right now with cash”

That’s a charming Rebel. I’d take it off your hands if I wasn’t hankering for a 2019 Grom in one of the funky new colors. As it is, we have three bikes in the garage and I’ve only managed to ride once this summer. :/ It’s tricky working from home -- I struggle to find enough time to drive the cars I need to review.

I’m sorry, you want to go from a rebel 250 .buell blast to a VTX1800?

I just want to be SUPER clear about what you want here.

After consulting with a MSF instructor (just so happens to be a member of my local motorcycle club), I’m not going to climb that high. I hope to replace the Re bel with something  like a 600 or maybe an 800 to grow into. Otherwise that VTX1800 would end up never being ridden lol.
